Schools boards and unions share a commitment to public education, creating positive learning environments, and maintaining positive labour relations. The collective bargaining process for public education is a two-tier bargaining process, involving both the provincial level (central bargaining) and local level (local bargaining). Provincially, members of the Canadian Union of Public Employees (CUPE) voted in favour of taking job action, which could happen as early as September 30. There are NO Waterloo Region District School Board employees who are members of the CUPE bargaining group.
Families can be assured that any planned job action between CUPE and the province will not impact the day-to-day experience of their children at school. Students will continue to be supported in all aspects of their learning.
