February 23rd, 2021
On February 16, 2021, the Ministry of Education announced that school boards will undertake asymptomatic targeted testing in at least 5% of the elementary and secondary schools within their jurisdiction each week and are asked to provide this testing opportunity to at least 2% of their student population per week. In WRDSB, testing will be available for approximately six school communities a week. All testing is voluntary and free of cost.
The WRDSB will coordinate the development of a regional asymptomatic testing strategy collaboratively with testing partners and Region of Waterloo Public Health. Local Public Health will support the WRDSB to identify the high priority areas and schools for testing and will continue their role in outbreak management and case investigation.
Testing will occur on weekends and after school. Schools will communicate directly with families when testing is available in their community.
Targeted testing will begin this week in the Kingsdale and Victoria Hills areas in Kitchener for the following schools:
- AR Kaufman Public School
- Eastwood Collegiate Institute
- Empire Public School
- Howard Robertson Public School
- JF Carmichael Public School
- King Edward Public School
- Kitchener-Waterloo Collegiate Institute
- Queen Elizabeth Public School
- Queensmount Public School
- Rockway Public School
- Sunnyside Public School
- Westmount Public School
- Wilson Avenue Public School
