The Region of Waterloo confirmed that as of today, Monday, May 1, GRT bus services have been canceled due to a strike.
The Region confirmed that due to the strike conventional bus, MoblityPLUS and busPLUS services will not operate, but ION train service will continue. This has already caused disruption for students who rely on GRT service to get to and from school, and may continue to do so for the duration of the strike.
We encourage any affected students to try to find alternate means of transportation to school, but those who are unable to attend will not be penalized. Students who miss school due to the GRT strike will be marked absent for safety reasons, but the absence(s) will not count towards their report card.
Regular school bus operations (yellow buses, vans and taxi services) continue to operate as normal and all schools are open.
We will continue to provide updates about impacts to WRDSB students, but we encourage all those affected to monitor this situation. Please refer to the GRT for further updates on the status of transit services. For updates, you can:
