Dear Preston Families,

The staff of Preston High School would like to extend our thanks to all of our students and their families for another wonderful school year. It was amazing to see more and more students become involved in our school community through athletics, activities, and school events!

Today is the final day of regular classes for students and many students will continue to complete assignments and summative assessments over the next three Exam and Evaluation Days. Good luck to everyone as they complete all the work for the semester.

A special thank you and congratulations to our graduating students! While your high school experience has likely not been what you expected it to be when you started in grade nine, your perseverance and ability to adapt through a range of challenges has been impressive, and has certainly provided you with important skills moving forward. We are looking forward to celebrating alongside you on Monday June 26th at 7pm at Forward Baptist Church.

Along with our graduating students, we also have some staff members who will be moving on to positions at other schools in September. Please join me in thanking Mr. Bignell, Mr. Gerard and Ms. Snell – we wish you all the best at your new schools.

We are also proud to share that some of our longstanding members of staff Mr. Haddaway and Ms. Jones are retiring! Both have dedicated many years to education and to PHS and we wish them well as they begin their next chapter.

As we wrap up another school year, we hope that you stay safe this summer and are all able to take some time to do the things that you enjoy and bring you happiness!

Final Report Card Pick Up

Semester Two Final Report Cards will be available for pick up at the main office from Wednesday, July 5th – Thurs. July 6th and again on Tuesday July 11th -13th, from 7:30 am to 3:30 pm. Final grades will also be available to students through My Blueprint as of July 4th.

For graduates, you may pick up your final package from PHS from Tuesday July 11th – 13th from 7:30 am-3:30 pm. This package will include your report card, diploma and school transcript.

Any unclaimed report cards will be given to returning students on the first day of school.

Student Timetables for Next Year

Over the past three weeks, guidance counsellors have been finalizing student timetables for the 2023-2024 school year. The Guidance Office will close as of June 29th. Counsellors will not be able to respond to emails or phone messages while the office is closed for the summer.

Counsellors will contact students, as needed, in late August or early September to discuss timetable issues stemming from final grades, conflicts, or summer school results. Students should begin to check their WRDSB email regularly in the last week of August. The Guidance Department will provide information regarding potential timetable changes once school begins.

Student timetables (grades 10-12) will be given to students on the first day of school in their homerooms. Students will find their homeroom via list posted on the first day of school by the Main Office and in the Crush area. Students entering Grade 9 will have their timetables mailed to their home address in mid-August along with specific first day of school information.

Returning Chromebooks

Students who are leaving the WRDSB (including graduates) are expected to return their Chromebooks, chargers and all other loaned items to the Main Office. Chromebooks that are not returned will be disabled by WRDSB Information Technology Services. If Chromebooks and chargers are required for summer school, they may be returned at the end of August.

Google Accounts

Students who are leaving the WRDSB will have their Google Drive and their WRDSB email accounts closed over the summer. It is recommended that students back up all documents and emails to their personal drive/accounts before June 28th, 2023. Apps such as Google Takeout can make this process easier.

Summer School

Students who have registered for a summer school course should continue to monitor their WRDSB Gmail account for communications about their course. Summer school courses will be accessed through the WRDSB Brightspace platform. To access the Virtual Learning Environment go to wrdsb.elearningontario.ca – the username and password for WRDSB students is the same as their PAL username and password. Students can refer to the PHS website for further details about summer school 2023.

First Day of School – Wednesday, September 6th

Tuesday, September 5th is a PD Day and the first day of school for students will be Wednesday, September 6th. The School Year Calendar is available on the Board Website.

More information about the start of the school year will be posted on School Day and the school website as it becomes available in August.

Summer Hours

The Main Office will be open from July 4th – 6th and July 10th -13th, from 7:30 am to 3:30 pm. The Main Office will be closed from July 14th to August 18th, re-opening on August 21st.
