As the semester progresses:

Do your homework when it is assigned. If there is no homework, assign some to yourself.

Check with the teacher the next day if there are questions you do not understand or cannot answer.

Try talking to yourself as you do the questions, prompting yourself for what action comes next.

Attend the Math workshops at lunchtime.

Correct your math tests, and keep them to study from.

For the exam:

Practice, practice, practice!

Make a definition sheet with the term on one side, and the definition on the other. Fold the definitions over, and define them for yourself.

Write the steps to solve a problem without worrying about solving the problem.

Study your old tests and exams. Make sure you can answer those questions correctly.

Try asking yourself questions and answering them.

When solving word problems, use a mnemonic like “GUESS”: Given, Unknown, Equation, Substitution, Solution to help you work through the problem. Drawing pictures may help you understand the problem. Include any dimensions that you have been given. Use an “x” for the unknown.
