The idea is simple: parent posts – a place where Waterloo Region District School Board (WRDSB) parents can share with other parents and caregivers.
What are Parent Posts?
Parent Posts is a blog series that covers a range of topics that are of interest to WRDSB families. Topics could include children’s physical and mental health, solutions for parenting in a digital world, and honest and open sharing about personal journeys through difficult times. The underlying message in every Parent Post is a desire to reach out and create community through understanding and solidarity, as parents and caregivers, within our school communities.
This initiative speaks to the commitment made by WRSDB and PIC to further deepen parent engagement and involvement in each and every child’s education. When we as parents and caregivers are engaged in our children’s education, our children’s achievement increases.
As shared in a past Parent Post written by Brent Hutzal, “some of the most valuable parent information I have ever received has been at my daughter’s school bus stop. I am confident that I am not alone when I make this statement, as it is a universal fact that parents help parents. After all, we are in this together.”
What can you expect from Parent Posts?
PIC, through this blog series, aims to share information, collaborate with the parent community, humanize (or “parent-ize”) information from the board, provide resources, and be a helping hand in your journey as your child(ren) progresses from JK to Grade 12, and beyond.
How can you get involved?
We would love to hear from you as we strive to reach and engage with WRDSB parents and caregivers through these blog posts. Is there a topic or issue you want to hear more about? Do you have an idea for a future post? Or, best of all, do you want to author a Parent Post yourself?
It is your voice we want to hear. Contact us with your thoughts, ideas and submissions at pic@wrdsb.ca. Feel free to share with us in the language of your choice. I also encourage you to take advantage of these other invaluable PIC parent resources:
- Visit the PIC website
- Connect with PIC by email at pic@wrdsb.ca
Stay tuned to www.wrdsb.ca for future parent blog posts. You can subscribe to posts by entering your email at the bottom of the webpage, under “Stay Connected.”
We look forward to continuing our collaborative Parent Posts initiative with you! At WRDSB, our students are first – each and every one – and behind each successful student, is an engaged parent.
Parent Posts are written by parents, for parents in collaboration with PIC. This series features guest parent bloggers where they share resources and information with other parents. We invite you to email and let us know if there are other topics you’d like to learn more about on Parent Posts.
