As the semester progresses:
Review notes taken daily. Make sure you understand the concepts or techniques.
When no homework has been assigned, take the opportunity to review material as much as possible.
Make sure your table of contents is complete. Compare your table of contents with another student, and complete what is missing.
Make sure your notebook is complete. Compare your notebook with another student, and complete what is missing.
Make a vocabulary list of key words for each unit as you complete it. Write the key words on one half of a notebook page, and the definition on the other half. Test your knowledge by folding the definition side back, and quizzing yourself.
Use acronyms to help you remember information (eg, HOMES = the names of the 5 Great Lakes)
For the exam:
Study charts and graphs. What information do they contain? How do you interpret them?
Get some maps from your teacher or trace over ones in your notes. Test yourself on city names and locations, bodies of water, etc. There is always a map question!
Work through review sheets. Check the answers carefully.
Study your old tests and exams. Make sure you can answer those questions.
Try asking yourself questions and answering them.
